About Me

Welcome! My name is Sandra Grossmann. I am the owner of The Feline Consultant.

There is not one traditional path to become a companion animal nutritionist. I hold a B.S. of Food Science from the Technical University Berlin, and various master certifications from quality & product management programs and draw from 28 years of experience about ingredients and formulating complete and balanced dry or wet diets, treats and supplements. Formulating species appropriate diets and treats has always been a passion of mine. The field of cat/pet nutrition is certainly one that is open to controversial discussions and opinions. Working internationally with many clients, companies and cultures has helped me keep an open mind and focus on science-based information.

After leaving the corporate industry in 2019, I completed the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s (UIUC) Companion Animal Nutrition certification whilst also launching my cat consultation business.

In July 2021, I graduated from the Veterinary Assistant Program at Animal Behavior College (ABC) and I completed my Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA) certification from The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) in June 2022.

Since December 2021 I am a certified cat behaviorist with the Animal Behavior Institute, and I am a supporting member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).

I know the challenges of caring for a pet with a compromised health condition or behavioral issues. Helping pet parents understand and scope with these conditions is my main mission for starting The Feline Consultant.

Many health issues result in behavioral problems, many behavioral problems have their root cause in an undiagnosed health condition. Educating pet parents how to cope with these situations better is my main goal.

Many of my clients come to me for advice about clinical nutrition, or specific diseases. My education as a cat friendly certified Veterinary Assistant helps me understand the medical condition your vet has diagnosed, and how a diet change or nutritional supplements can affect the condition.

Research on cat specific conditions is very limited. Compared to a decade ago we have made great progress. Many cat only veterinarians are well trained to help you and your four-legged kid. We also have access to cat friendly certified vet clinics all over the country.

Cats are fascinating animals. They have a different metabolism and display different behavioral traits compared to dogs. Cats often get accused of being much less personable than dogs. And while they tend to be more independent than dogs they for sure have a special place in the hearts of many fellow cat lovers!

Thank you for putting trust in me and my cat consultation services!
